Emanuel Ringelblum wrote in his diary, on July 22, 1942:
(…) The Jewish police had a very bad opinion – even before the deportation, too. In contrast to the Polish police, which did not take the part in the round-ups to the labor camps, the Jewish police were engaged in this hideous work. (…) However, the depth of ignominy was achieved during the deportation. (…) The police were prepared mentally for this dirty work and they did it earnestly, therefore. (…) How did it happen the Jews dragged on the carts women and children, greybeards and sicks, knowing the everyone was going to slaughter. (…) On the faces of the policemen conducting this action was not the sadness and pain due to this hideous work. On the contrary, everyone can see them happy, merry, fooled, loaded with the loot plundered together with the Ukrainians. The cruelty of the Jewish police was very often greater than the Germans, Ukrainians and Latvians.
